I recently received grant funding with Lifetime Arts, Inc / Creative Aging and the Nevada Arts Council to offer a FREE Oil Pastel "Smudge" Workshop to Older Adults 55 & Better! I wish to also thank The Sparks Museum & Cultural Center for their kind offer to host the series. If you are living in the Truckee Meadows area of Reno/Sparks this is a great way to have fun, make new friends and create some great art. Love to see you in class! The tulips are blooming everywhere! One of the first signs of Spring!
My favorite time of year! Enjoy! This is a post from the Oil Pastel Smudge FaceBook page! If you have not gone there to check things out you may just with to do just that! Lots of loving Smudging to share! Please Follow and Like!
I took one image of 3 ornaments and created several items to match working with the same image, my Apple computer, scanner and printer! 1. Original Framed 2. Card to Match 3. Wrapping Paper for small packages. ...Not shown: You can also have the Wrapping paper laminated and it would make a great placemat for the Holidays. You can do the same, give it try.
A slightly round or oval negative space is able to be so many things. Create the oval or circle in several sizes and you have what I suggest here. I added leaves for interest. I also drew in pencil stems. Just try working with a circle to see what you come up with. Have fun! Experiment and Play! It's all about a "Smudge!"
This piece I created during what is called a "Quick Draw" Fundraiser. Several Artist's have 90 minutes to create a piece of art that is then auctioned off for funds to support a particular non-profit organization or entity you are wishing to help fund. I am really proud of this piece. I walk along a path in the desert that has this fabulous plateau. This is my impression of that area. Create images that you are familiar with. You can't go wrong with a smudge! Try it!
For the last few years I have been working with a retirement community in Reno, NV. Revel Rancharrah. Sharing and teaching my craft. This September we worked on Sunflowers in my Oil Pastel Smudge technique. I also offer Private Classes that include all materials. Get in touch if you are interested. The same price for 1 - 5 students.
All of you Smudgers can tell how this piece was created. I get excited about the color combinations as much as challenged by the shapes of the actual templates. Smudging is just a matter of trial and error. If you don't try how do you know what you can do or not do! Give it a try!
