How fortunate that the citizens and the City of Reno, NV supports the huge endeavor of this magnitude, in making ARTOWN happen. It is the enjoyment and participation in the creative and cultural activities that encourage a healthy lifestyle and community! KUDO TO ALL! I wish it was ARTOWN everyday! www.RenoisARTOWN.com
30-50 people attended the demonstration, enjoyed the refreshments and viewed the art. Sally was one of the guests that had the courage to learn how to "Smudge" in public! A great day was had by all!
Many thanks to the South Valleys Library, Kathy Berndt and staff. Plus big hugs and congratulations to my fabulously wonderful students who shared their works in the show:
Vivian Olds, Helaine Greenberg, Justine Anderson, Sherry Hunter, and Cindy Oberlander It would not have been the same with out all of you. Sincerely! The enjoyment in creating art is the sharing! See a sample of their works in OIL PASTEL SMUDGE below which were at the show. I was pleased my vision of how I wished the show to work turned out just the way I imagined. You never know.
You think it through, and only hope all is well. Come see me and the other fine artist "Smudgers" at the reception Saturday, July 19. I contacted the South Valleys Library 2 years ago to hold an exhibit of "OIL PASTEL SMUDGE" during ARTOWN. (www.renoisARTOWN.com) It was well worth the 2 year wait.
I have some fabulous students joining me in this exhibit showing their interpretation of this exciting technique using a self made template and working in positive & negative shapes. JUSTINE ANDERSON HELAINE GREENBERG SHERRY HUNTER CINDY OBERLANDER VIVIAN OLDS It would not be the same showing without these wonderful artist's taking the OIL PASTEL SMUDGE technique that I am sharing, to another level. Much thanks to all of you. RenoisARTOWN.com ARTOWN is one of the nation’s most comprehensive arts and culture festivals, which takes place annually during the entire month of July in Reno, Nevada. In 2012, the festival featured more than 500 events - with over 66 percent offered free to the public - and attracted more than 300,000 people. With more than 160 partners, the month long festival takes place at venues citywide. Artown receives major funding from the City of Reno, and is sponsored by U.S. Bank, NV Energy, Waste Management, Grand Sierra Resort, JLH Inc., Wild River Grille, KOLO 8 News Now, RGJ Media, KNPB-TV, KTHX-FM, KUNR-FM, with additional support from the Nevada Arts Council. Sherry Hunter currently residing in Yuma Arizona, as she and her husband are retired and traveling, (in a cute little tiny adorable trailer, I might add). She took a chance and entered her Smudge work in the Mountain Shadows Association's Annual Judged Fine Art Show. In taking that risk and putting herself and her art out there, and up for judging, she found herself walking away with a 1st Place Blue Ribbon in the category of Oil Pastels.
Congratulation's Sherry! I am so proud and excited for you. |
